Introduction:

In modern times, Physical Education is one of the most thrilling and dynamic subjects. This subject has changed intensely during the last 50 years. It has prolonged in different areas from school to non-school setting and from school-aged children to people of all ages. Earlier, physical education was generally understood as physical activities either in school time table or some free hand exercises, games, sports, racing, swimming, etc. If we look at the Indian history of physical education after Independence, a number of schemes were launched by the Government of India for schools, where every student must participate in physical activities. We can witness the growing interest in games and sports exemplified by the fitness boom and the wellness movement. Sports events receive worldwide coverage. In schools, students like sports and other forms of physical activities, which help to achieve and maintain their health and well-being.

Objective

To be considered an educational experience, extra-curricular activities must have specific and worthwhile objectives. These objectives include development of:

  • Physical fitness and skills
  • Mental alertness
  • Ethical qualities
  • Constructive social abilitie
  • Emotional maturity

All objectives and principles in extra-curricular activities must be primarily concerned with the welfare and educational development of the student participant. The principles, which are to be achieved from the Interscholastic Program, are to provide students with the opportunity to:

  • Develop physical talents to their maximum potential.
  • Engage in competitive activities, while promoting sound health, safety, and physical fitness
  • Exemplify good conduct as a means for learning good citizenship.
  • Learn to appropriately experience both success and failure in an educational environment.
  • Learn from experience that consequences follow the violation of a rule.
  • Experience working as a team member, exercising self-discipline and self-sacrifice in order to achieve team goals.
  • Learn how to be a good teammate, making positive contributions, regardless of the role on the team or activity
  • Experience a feeling of self-worth and to develop self-confidence
  • Experience in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Engage in organized activities with other students whose backgrounds may be dissimilar from their own.

6. Annual Sports Day Celebration on 12th & 13th February 2020

Sport is one of the top activities which bring great results for people of any age. Sport develops physical, social, and organizational skills improving people’s abilities to become a part of a team and always heading to the main goal. All these skills are beneficial in personal and professional life and must always be obtained

The much awaited Annual sports day of ICEM was held on 12th & 13th February 2020 with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere. The program began with torch marching in the presence of the respected IGI Chairperson Dr. Tarita Shankar ma’am along with Director ICEM Dr. Sunil Ingole, HOD’s, staff and students declaring the sports meet open by hoisting the flag. This was followed by the oath taking ceremony wherein the students promised to keep the spirit of sportsmanship high and an opening speech by IGI Chairperson Dr. Tarita Shankar ma’am acknowledging the esteemed gathering and emphasizing on the importance of physical fitness. Dr. Sunil Ingole Director ICEM also gave best wishes to the participants

Total 9 sport events were inaugurated. Around 900 plus students participated in the events. And the sports events like Volley ball, Basketball, Box cricket & Badminton witnessed the more participation of the girls. The sport meet smoothly conducted by the event in charge, staff coordinators and student coordinators under the fellowman ship of Prof. Atul Gore Director of physical education & sports. The sports meet inauguration ceremony ended with the vote of thanks by sports student coordinator Mr. Chetan Joshi. General Championship won by Computer department with 72 points.
