How to choose stream in engineering course after 12th
Published on October 22, 2021
One of the most crucial task after the 12th is to choose the right branch for Engineering, being the critical point of the lifetime, as we are determining about our career and future. Before taking the decision question yourself “Does this support the life I am trying to create”.
Here are few points that helps to select an appropriate branch.
One will have to choose the branch depending upon the placements, salary and job availability in future.
There are mainly four core branches: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering.
Civil Engineering deals with design, construction and maintenance of physical and naturally built environment.
Mechanical Engineering is the learning, design, development, creation, and testing of mechanical and thermal sensors and devices.
Electrical Engineering deals with the study, design, and application pf equipment involved in the generation, distribution and transmission od electrical power.
Computer Engineering integrates several fields of computer science and electronic engineering required to develop computer hardware and software.
In future if you are thinking to appear for UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) , it is better to go for the core branches like Civil, Electrical and Mechanical. More vacancies will be available for Civil Engineers in Public Services.
Anyone interested to get a State Government Job, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering are more suitable.
Mechanical Engineering is best suitable if your goal is to work under PSU (Public Sector Undertaking).
If you are willing to work in the private sector , Computer Engineering is more suitable and will have good placements and better packages.
For becoming an entrepreneur again Computer Engineering branch is more suitable, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers doesn’t suit much as the machines and devices are more expensive and difficult to set up a company.
Other than these four branches there are so many other branches such as Automobile Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Industrial Production, Power Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Dairy Technology, etc.., the availability of jobs is limited.
For example, there is more demand for Mechanical Engineers in companies than Automobile Engineer, as automobile engineering only deals with manufacturing, maintenance and designing of automobiles but not all the other machines, likewise Structural Engineering is also a sub-branch of Civil Engineering which is only dealing with only the structure and strength of the building.
Rather than choosing a branch, choosing the right college is more important, do visit the college and enquire about the placements and the average packages of the students placed from the particular branch but not the highest package.
