What is Civil Engineering?
Wikipedia defines civil engineering as a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams, and buildings. Basically, it says civil engineering is responsible for everything you see when you step out of your house. A nation is said to be developed when it has the necessary infrastructure and Civil engineering provides it to them.
The place you are born, the place you study, the place you work, the mode you travel, even the place you rest in peace… all are the products of civil engineering.
How does Civil Engineering help us?
Civil engineering unquestionably exists from the beginning of any civilization. Right from the Harappa or Mohenjo-Daro civilization people know about building multi-story houses, roads even drainage systems. So it is pretty sure that you can’t imagine a society without civil engineering. Many have this misconception that civil engineering only deals with construction activities. Whereas constructing roads, bridges, ports, and airports is just one part, its maintenance is a task that never ends.
Civil engineering builds a society most suitable and most beneficial to all in every aspect. Finally, the basic need of humanity for many counting generations is ‘Roti, Kapada aur Makaan’ out of which Makaan is possible only because of civil engineering.

The life of a civil engineer is a rewarding, creative, and fun job. No day is the same and expected. You can say that it is the toughest and most challenging. The first picture which comes to anyone’s mind when they think about civil engineering is a guy wearing a white cap, holding plans in his hand, and standing in the middle of the site. An engineer has to start his career as a supervisor, followed by a junior engineer, then an assistant engineer, project engineer, project manager and goes on. This requires strong willpower and enthusiasm to work in a team.
Civil engineer a professional who not only has to work in fields but also has to be an interface between the imagination and reality.

There are many renounced sectors to choose from among the diverse fields after getting a civil engineering degree. You can work as a Design engineer, Water engineer, Surveyor, Site engineer, and Rural and Urban Transport engineer. You also get opportunities to within many national and multinational organizations, local authorities, and government departments. Starting your own business is also a good option to mold your career.
The scope of civil in coming years, believe me even though the Civil branch is not that much in demand at the present but in the next 6 to 8 years, civil is going to have a huge scope in India. Finally, remember ‘All the wonders in the world are made by civil engineers.
