What is a Mechanical engineering course?
It is one of the most flexible and diverse engineering courses. In Mechanical engineering, the basics of physics, mathematics, and materials science principles are applied to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain systems. Being the oldest and broadest of the engineering discipline, mechanical engineering touches virtually every aspect of modern life, including the human body, a highly complex machine.
Role of Mechanical Engineer
In industries, mechanical engineers research, design, develop, build and test mechanical and thermal devices, including tools, machines, and engines. The mechanical engineers design and supervise the manufacturing of many products ranging from sewing needles to rockets and satellites. These professionals are an integral part of both the government and private sector undertakings.
These engineers can also achieve high managerial positions in government as well as private sector organizations as per their educational qualifications and field of expertise.
Annual/Monthly Pay Packet
The average monthly salary of a fresh mechanical engineer is approximately in the range between Rs.15,000 and Rs.25,000.Good campus placements can pick up even better packages for deserving students. As per the skill set possessed expertise area, nature of roles and responsibilities, the employer, etc. the hiring company increases, the annual pay packet. Well-experienced and highly skilled mechanical engineers can easily get annual salaries as high as Rs 40-45 lacs.
International Opportunities
Foreign countries are always motivating highly qualified professionals from the Mechanical Engineering field. Post-graduates, Ph. D.s from various IITs and NITs, and private colleges are often offered suitable employment in foreign countries. This does not mean that only highly qualified mechanical engineers get opportunities to work abroad. The engineer who is employed in a multinational company may also get the chance to work on offshore projects.
Placement Opportunities
Major industries which offer employment to Mechanical engineers include automobiles, space research, aeronautical, energy and utilities, air conditioning, bio-mechanical industry, manufacturing plants, air conditioning, and refrigeration industries, oil and gas exploration, refining industries and the agricultural sector, Financial and Marketing aspects of product development, Human and resource management.
Thus mechanical engineering offers a wide bouquet of job options to students who are looking for a stable and stimulating career.
Nowadays, traditional boundaries are expanding. Mechanical engineers are focusing their attention on new areas of research such as nanotechnology, biomedical applications, development of composite materials, environmental conservation, etc.
Mechanical engineering placements are unending. Even the peculiarity of the global economic crisis could not knock out the demand for these professionals in the global job market.
